In the meantime, check out some of the factors to consider:
- Your orthodontic issues
- Appearance
- Length of treatment
- Convenience
- Cost
Instead of metal wires and brackets, Invisalign straightens your teeth with a series of clear plastic aligners. You wear each set of aligners about two weeks, then switch to the next ones in the series.
Six Month Smiles works more like conventional braces. They are less conspicuous, though, because they have clear brackets and tooth-colored wires. Six Month Smiles treatment is quicker than conventional braces because it focuses largely on the teeth in the front of your mouth.
What Issues Do You Want to Correct?
Both types of treatment can correct many kinds of orthodontic problems. Dr. White will consider whether your issues are strictly cosmetic or involve a misaligned bite. The severity of your issues will help determine which method will be more effective for you, as well as how long your treatment will take.
How Concerned Are You About Appearance?
Both Invisalign and Six Month Smiles blend more easily into your smile than standard metal braces. However, with no wires or brackets aligners are less visible than Six Month Smiles. If you have a high-profile job or another reason to want a nearly invisible treatment option, Invisalign may be the best choice for you.
How Long Will Treatment Take?
The length of your treatment is based largely on the issues you are correcting. Most Invisalign patients complete their treatment within a year – if they wear their aligners for the recommended 22 hours a day. If you remove your aligners too often, you risk extending your treatment time. Since Six Month Smiles can’t be removed, your self-discipline won’t affect the length of treatment. If you aren’t trying to correct a misaligned bite, you can straighten teeth in as few as six months.
How Convenient Will Treatment Be?
You can remove your aligners, which is one of the primary differences of Invisalign treatment. This makes it easier to enjoy any kind of food, without worrying about it getting stuck in or on braces. Brushing and flossing isn’t any more difficult than it was before. With Six Month Smiles, you will want to avoid certain foods like popcorn – or worry about getting them out of your braces. Still, as noted above, it can be tempting to leave your aligners out longer than you should – which can lengthen your treatment time.
How Much Will Treatment Cost?
Because many patients complete Six Month Smiles treatment in less time than Invisalign, it may cost less. We can give you a cost estimate during your initial consultation, after we examine your teeth and determine the probable length of treatment.
